Teachers & Educators

National Education Association data shows that nearly one of two teachers leaves the teaching profession within the first five years of their educational career. No statistics are needed to highlight the stress levels and burnout of many who have continued. Education is a rewarding, yet challenging field and the abundance of challenging behaviors—by students, their parents and colleagues—creates extremely tough situations for many in schools today and provides a sense of frustration and loss for answers. Most teachers and educators are extremely passionate about children and teaching, yet can get hung up in the difficulties of classroom management and of dealing with high intense behaviors.

Be encouraged—there is hope! Natalie has experienced the transformation this approach produces and is passionate about sharing and teaching this style of interaction and building relationships and about bringing hope to educators. The strategies of the Nurtured Heart Approach® provides the foundation for building respectful, safe, cooperative and connected classroom environments and school culture.

Greatness Profile

Rosemary “Rose” Hardy (Elementary School Principal/Special Ed Director) & Steve Hockert (Elementary School Principal)

“Collaborative Principals Working with Intense Children”

Since adopting the Nurtured Heart Approach®, Rose Hardie has seen office referrals plummet. Last year there were 169 office referrals mostly from the playground. This past year there were 2 playground referrals. Steve Hockert has also seen the positive effects of NHA at his elementary school. His office disciplinary referrals are down 30% compared to the previous year. Both principals credit NHA with positively impacting their school culture.

Prior to learning NHA, Rose expresses that she was “suffering because of the extreme student behaviors.” There came a time she says, “when the status quo became scarier than transformation!” Now, instead of giving energy to “rather negative behavior, the administration and staff recognize the positive behaviors in their students—and the results are transformative! “We are not available for ‘non-greatness’ anymore,” says Rose.

The shift provides physical and emotional safety in their schools. It also has positively changed the school atmosphere. “We provide clarity and boundaries,” says Steve. “and we no longer celebrate or live in the past because all we have is this moment.” The Approach has given Rose and Steve more time to handle their real supervisory and administrative roles. They know the Approach gives them the answers they need, and more importantly provides the teachers the answers they need.
